9 questions to ask before booking a newborn photographer
Finding the right newborn photographer
It can be a little overwhelming! Until you look you may not even realize how many options there actually are. To make your life a little easier I have put together a list of 9 questions you should ask before you book your newborn photographer.
- What type of newborn photography do you like most? Do you prefer timeless posed photography or do you prefer a more casual lifestyle approach? Both are beautiful in their own way and with the right photographer you can’t go wrong with either one!
- Would you prefer using a newborn photography studio or having a photographer come to you? In most cases in-home sessions are lifestyle photography though some photographers do posed in-home as well. In-home newborn photography is usually a premium service.
- How much experience does the photographer have with newborns? This is a really important one to ask! I’m actually planning a whole blog for this one alone as you do not want someone handling your baby that doesn’t have experience with little ones.
- What type of covid/health precautions will make you feel comfortable during a newborn photography session? This is a thing and has been long before the pandemic. You want to know that your photographer isn’t allowing sick clients in the studio and they take cleaning seriously where babies are concerned. Don’t feel bad about asking these questions! Your comfort level is important and you should always listen to your momma instincts!
- Do you want a newborn photographer that has a wardrobe to choose from or do you want to bring your own outfits? Some studios provide a client wardrobe while others provide styling guides to help you make the right choices.
- How do you want to use your images? This is important because you want a photographer that will help you bring that vision to life in beautiful artwork for your home. Find someone that puts real focus on guiding you through this process and values the client experience enough to help you find the right products that fit your style.
- Is this a reputable newborn photographer? It’s important to do your homework here. Check out their website and social media pages then compare. What do their reviews say about their work and client experience? We have an amazing pool of talented photographers to choose from in Atlanta!
- What is your favorite style for newborn photography? As mentioned above each photographer will have their own style. For some this may mean they don’t use props while others may have a strictly boho look to their photography. Ask yourself questions like…Do they use props that I like? Do I like brighter images or moodier images? Does their portfolio match the results I want? In most cases what you see is what you get!
- Do they also offer milestone photography? Is this something you want? Milestones gives you the ability to document the first year usually ending in a cake smash session when they turn one. If this is something that is important to you it might be beneficial to find a photographer that can do them all. Since all photographers have a different style to their work, using one photographer will give a cohesive look at the end of that year which will result in better artwork for your home and/or albums.
This list is a great place to start when considering your options! Start early so you can take your time and find the perfect newborn photographer that is the best fit for your growing family!
